Size it.
Weigh it. Cost it.
Calculate a solid rectangular sheet or plate from its dimensions and density. Add your supplier’s price per kilogram to explore material cost.
Densities are nominal starting points, not grade certificates. Use your supplier’s density and actual thickness. Price is your input, not a live metal price. Inputs stay in this page and are not sent or saved.

Solid sheet weight: no holes, cut-outs, coatings or nesting yield included. Material cost excludes cutting, freight, tax and other charges.
Formula, sources and assumptions
Area = length × width ÷ 1,000,000 (mm² to m²). Weight per sheet = area × thickness ÷ 1,000 × density. Total weight = weight per sheet × quantity. Material cost = total weight × price per kg. Calculations use unrounded values; displayed weights round to three decimals and costs to two.
Reference: Aalco’s metal product guide includes theoretical sheet-weight methods and nominal density data (the stainless reference here is rounded). Hen-Stol’s steel sheet calculator uses 7,850 kg/m³ for carbon steel. Composition and dimensional tolerances affect actual weight; weigh material where actual mass matters.
THE SHEET IS ONLY THE START
A rectangle is stock.
Your DXF is the part.
This calculator weighs the full rectangle. Holes, profiles and cut-outs change the finished part; layout and spacing change how much stock the job needs.
Open the DXF in LEVRTEK 2D App to review the drawing’s dimensions, cutting geometry and findings before estimating the job.

A few useful
answers.
How do I calculate steel plate weight?
Multiply length, width and thickness in metres by the material density in kg/m³. This calculator converts entered millimetres to metres and multiplies the result by sheet quantity. The nominal mild-steel example uses 7,850 kg/m³.
Can I use it for aluminium or stainless steel?
Yes. Choose a nominal reference or enter the density for your specific alloy. Aluminium and stainless presets use 2,700 and 7,900 kg/m³ respectively. Grade composition and manufacturing tolerances affect actual mass.
Does it deduct holes or calculate nesting?
No. The result is for solid rectangular stock. It does not calculate net DXF area, holes, kerf, nesting yield, scrap or coating weight.
Is the material cost a supplier quote?
No. Weight is multiplied by the AUD/kg price you enter. Use your current supplier pricing and add applicable processing, freight, tax and other charges in your estimate.
