Formula, sources and assumptions

Cutting minutes per part = cut length ÷ average feed rate. Piercing minutes per part = pierces × seconds per pierce ÷ 60. Part time = cutting + piercing + other time ÷ 60. Batch time = part time × quantity + batch setup. Machine cost = batch minutes ÷ 60 × hourly rate. Setup uses the same hourly rate in this model.

This assumes one cut pass, unchanged per-part inputs across the batch and no shared-line or nesting time savings. Small features can require slower speeds. Cincinnati’s laser process parameter manual separates cutting and piercing settings by thickness. Use your own process data; this page supplies no machine-specific settings.

BEFORE YOU START

A few useful
answers.

How is laser cutting time calculated?

The basic cutting term is total cut length divided by average feed rate in matching units. This page adds pierce count multiplied by time per pierce, an entered allowance per part, and one setup allowance for the batch.

Where do I find cut length and pierce count?

Review the drawing in the free LEVRTEK 2D DXF analyser feature. Confirm the cutting scope and compare the geometry with your CAM plan; shared lines, lead-ins and nesting can change the actual programmed path and pierces.

Does the calculator choose speeds from material thickness?

No. Machine power, material, thickness, gas, geometry and process settings affect speed and pierce time. Enter validated data for your machine rather than treating the fictional example as cutting advice.

Is machine cost the selling price?

No. This result covers entered machine time at your hourly rate, including setup at that same rate. Material, finishing, freight, tax, markup, minimum charges and other unentered costs are excluded.
